So is it Sal or Sam?

Long story short, it's an Italian thing.

Most Salvatore's in American/Italian households are given Sam as their nickname.

Hint ... if I signed it Sam, the work was created prior to 2000.  If the signature is Sal, it's a more recent work, some before 2000..
